Have you been asked by an architect to make sure your project is LEED Certified? Does someone want a green building and you’re not sure how to help them? What is LEED 2009?

The green building movement has taken off in the Chicagoland area and contractors are an important element in the process. Green buildings are designed and constructed to minimize their impact on the environment while providing a comfortable and efficient structure for the building occupants. Many of these buildings are being designed and built to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards. Others simply include sound environmental and energy efficiency principles.

Designed to educate the construction community about green building procedures and strategies, this workshop will give you the background, the tools, and the knowledge to help your project team achieve a certified structure. Site supervisors, managers, and foremen in the construction industry play a vital role in the green building movement. They direct the application and implementation of these concepts and technologies on the construction site and in the office. The building team integrates functions, procures specialized materials and services, and documents the activities leading to a certified and commissioned structure. Navigating the process can feel overwhelming but this workshop will lay the foundation for working with a project team.

This day-long workshop is taught by LEED accredited architects and contractors who are active members of the U.S. Green Building Council – Chicago Chapter and who have extensive experience in designing, building, commissioning, and documenting LEED and green facilities.  It includes updated information about the recently released LEED 2009 certification process.

Topics include the green building team and contractor's role in the following:

  • sustainable site construction methods
  • considerations of energy and water efficiency
  • building commissioning
  • construction waste management
  • procurement and documentation of green building materials
  • construction for good indoor air quality
  • documentation for LEED credits
