On Saturday September 12, 2009, the World War II Polish Army Historical Association reenacted an invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany in 1939 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the beginning of WWII. The Nazis conquered earlier other countries but Poland was the first one that stood up and fought. The reenactment took place at the PNA Youth Camp in Yorkville, IL. In the first reenacted battle, the German forces besieged Mokra, a Polish village on the border with Germany. The Polish forces then re-captured the village in the second reenactment.
Thousands of spectators watched with curiosity military maneuvers. And for children it was an unforgettable history lesson combined with having a fun. In the words of Andrzej Lisowski of the World War II Polish Army Historical Association, the event would not be possible without the help of PACBA. PACBA members built homes and set up the scenery that resembled a village of the time.
